Getting Help and Support

If you are distressed or experiencing feelings of despair - get help now.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis now, there are several people you can call for help.

If you are in Edinburgh: 

Edinburgh Crisis Centre (call 080 8010414)

  • Open 24 hours a day
  • Support for people experiencing a mental health crisis in Edinburgh area

Emergency student support (out of hours)

  • How to contact the University for support, outside of normal working hours (9am - 5pm)
  • You can contact University Security 24/7 on +44 (0) 131 650 2257

If you are in the UK: 

The Samaritans (call 116 123) 

  • Open 24 hours a day
  • A National Service for anything that is worrying you.

NHS 24 (call 111)

  • Available outside GP opening hours
  • Provides critical health support, including mental health.

Breathing Space (call 0800 838587)

  • Open evenings and weekends:
    • Monday-Thursday 6pm to 2am
    • Friday 6pm to Monday 6am
  • A confidential phoneline for anyone in Scotland feeling low, anxious or depressed.
