Getting Help and Support

If you are distressed or experiencing feelings of despair - get help now.

  • Is there someone you can call - family or a friend?
  • Is there a neighbour who can help?

If you or anyone else is in immediate danger or harm contact your local emergency services

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis now, there are several people you can call for help.

The Samaritans (call 116 123) 

  • Open 24 hours a day
  • A National Service for anything that is worrying you.

Edinburgh Crisis Centre (call 080 8010414)

  • Open 24 hours a day
  • Support for people experiencing a mental health crisis in Edinburgh area

NHS 24 (call 111)

  • Available outside GP opening hours
  • Provides critical health support, including mental health.

Breathing Space (call 0800 838587)

  • Open evenings and weekends:
    • Monday-Thursday 6pm to 2am
    • Friday 6pm to Monday 6am
  • A confidential phoneline for anyone in Scotland feeling low, anxious or depressed.

Mental Health Assessment Service (call 0131 537 6000)

  • Open 24 hours a day
  • A nurse-led emergency mental health assessment service for people experiencing a mental health crisis. In the Edinburgh area
